haf u read the news? the one on the reduction of chinese syllabus? yea..it'z laz wk's news..but i brought it up simply..bcos i gt vli irritated by the reaction from the public.n i feel lyk complainin now.
but in case u havent heard of the news..i'll juz summarize the thing:
the new implemention---->>>> teach less, learn more. hence 61% from pri. 6 & 27% for o lvls r bein cutbak. Other levels r no exception, 10-15% r bein reduced. There was an overwhelming reaction from students to teachers. Some felt that, it worked. Some whinned cos they ASSUMED that student'z chinese standards would drop cos the main aspect of a language- vocabulary has been greatly affected, n afraid dat the exam would b no sweat fer all da students n they wouldnt put in effort in learnin chinese nemore.
I TELL U ! THEIR MENTALITY IS SOOO RONG. y muz they brood ova unecessities lyk that. exam lyk chicken feet? ur head lor...bcos of dat...theres no limitations of wat the examiner would lyk to test on...they might b testin on mayb cultural thingies? u wouldnt noe. THEY CAN TEST WATEVA THEY LYK...did moe say dat they would onli test on the 6 puny chpters? i felt dat the original curiculum that we used to stick on was a bit unflexible. we used to haf many many chpters to study, resultin in 'runnin-ova' chpters...in the end leh? how many did well? even if they did well, can they also do well in other aspects of the whole language? can they oso speak fluent chinese? ( i'm referin to sporean kids) how much do they noe bout the cultures? hardly neone. y? dat;z bcos trs focused too much on the stupid tb. the other areas werent bein brushed on. dat'z where higher chinese come in. students hu take higher chinese hope to b well rounded in everythin. but bcos their foundation werent strong enuff..they gt kik out...
so wat i m tryin to say is dat.....the new implementation can affect us in neway..it'z actually up to students' initiatives..if they r sensible enuff..they could haf read up on their own n do self study...if nt..as wat they said..standards drop lor..but dat;z too bad. the interest is nt even dere..no matter how much u force dat kid to focus...it'z useless..cos they r juz too reluctant to do the work.
by reducin the heavy ciriculum, it can liven up the lessons. trs can brush up more on other areas..as fer vocabulary wise..it'z rilly up to the students..so wat if ure onli familar wit all the words in the limited tb..n new nth outside the tb?
